Specialties
The Institute conducts training of experts at three educational qualification levels “Bachelor” (4 year), “Specialist” (5 year), “Master” (5,5 year) by the following specialties: -
Forestry;

Park-Gardening;

Woodworking in Technology;

Hunting.
The specialty “Forestry” includes the following specializations: “Forestry”, “Forest Resources Management and Forest entrepreneurship”, “Forest Melioration”, “Forest Protection”, “Nature-Forest reserve cause”, “Hunting”.
The graduates receive qualification of junior engineer (engineer), research engineer of Forestry or Park-Gardening. It depends on educational qualification level. If the specialty is “Woodworking in Technologies”, graduates receive qualification of bachelor-technologist for woodworking.
Educational conception of Institute
The educational conception of the Institute is to train new generation of experts for Forestry and related fields of production on the basis of modern educational standards, which are adapted to the requirements of the best world educational programs, and for working at state and non-governmental sectors. The priority directions of training are: -
Scientific basics and progressive technologies for creation and growing highly productive forests on the basis of ecological forestry and on the principles of continued and inexhaustible forest exploitation, and stable development of forest sector;

Ecological and economic, social aspects of effective management of forest resources on the market;

Studying, preservation and augmenting of biological variety in forests;
-
Creation and design of park-gardening landscapes, construction and planting of greenery;
-
Modern technologies of woodworking.
Training conditions
Studying at the Institute could be different forms: a full-time and a correspondence, free of charge and under the contract. Also institute has an abbreviated educational program for graduates of institutions with I and II accreditation levels.
The Professional graduates’ rights
The graduate with Bachelor degree has a right to work at the following posts according to III and IV qualification levels and State professions classifier: foreman, senior foreman, engineer of forest, ecological, and other related areas, enterprises; technical workers in the commercial firms, which deal with forestry and park-gardening, forest exploitation and woodworking. The graduate has a possibility to keep on studying at the educational qualification levels of “Specialist” and “Master”.
The graduate with Specialist (Master) degree has a right to work as an engineer, manager and leader, to be elected and appointed to scholastic and scientific work. If he/she has a recommendation of Scientific Council of the Institute, he/she has a right to keep on studying at the post-graduate course with the purpose to write PhD thesis.
Organization of training process
The training process at the Institute aims the effective individual training and education of the specialist who is able to solve the modern production and scientific problems. During the first two years students study three series of obligatory and normative disciplines provided by the educational-professional programs: the humanities, fundamental natural and professional oriented disciplines of the forestry profile.
At the fourth academic year the disciplines of specialization, which is relevant now, start study.
During the fifth academic year students pass in-depth study of professional, economic and administrative disciplines. The attention is given to studying foreign languages and computer technologies.
The laboratory training is carried out at the studying laboratories of the Institute. There are educational practical training after each academic year. The base for educational practical training is Boyarka Forest Experimental Station. The technological and pre graduation practical training are the essential part of preparation, the students pass training at the leading enterprises of the State Forestry Committee.
Research activity
The Institute’s staff conducts the research work in the most problems of forestry science: studying the laws of forest ecosystems development, improvement and ecological aspect of forestry technologies, working out and application of new forest paradigm, improvement of the methods of estimation of forest resources, studying the problems of dynamics of phyto-masses and ecological condition of forests, modelling of the processes of deposition carbon by forest because of the global climate changes, optimization of agricultural forest landscapes. The students of all courses take an active part in the researches.
The international activity of the Institute aims the growing of the world authority of Ukraine forestry science, organization of lectures and graduates of the Institute training at the foreign forestry educational and scientific institutions, the involvement of student to the international master’s programs, joint scientific projects. The Institute is a member of the International Union of Forestry Research Organizations, cooperates with the universities and scientific institutions of Poland, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Germany, USA, Austria. The results of the researches are used in the preparation for the term papers and graduation thesis, mentioned in the scientific publications and reports at the national and international conferences.
The Specialized Scientific Council on defending the Doctor and PhD dissertations is functioning at the Institute. The training of PhD and Doctors of sciences is carried out in three specialties: 06.03.01 "Forest Cultures and Phytomelioration"; 06.03.02 "Forest Use Planning and Forest Valuation"; 06.03.03 "Silviculture".
Culture activity
The students of the Institute take an active part at the cultural and sport university life. It is, in particular, visiting the youth club “Forest tale”, taking part in concerts of the songs. The institute team takes part in the university KVK, in the football and basketball sport competitions.
