It was founded in 1938 on the base of Goloseevsky forest nursery planted in 1923. It is occupied 24, 5 ha including 9, 5 and 15 ha under arboretum and dendropark correspondingly.
Collection of arboreal species numbers 623 taxa. There are 541 species, 60 forms and 12 hybrids among them. Collection in the close ground numbers 128 species. About 50 new species of arboreal plants are tested in the introduction nursery.
O. V. Pletnew, I. I. Vertepny, B. M. Makhmet, V. G. Koreisha, A. O. Sivolapenko headed the arboretum for different years. Associate professor Ludmila Krupkina heads the botanical garden since 2000.
Research and practical activity of academicians P. S. Pogrebnjak, M. M. Grishko, N. O. Konovalov, V. E. Shmidt, F. M. Rusanov, associate professors M. I. Shendrikov, B. M. Makhmet, and I. V. Agarkov etc. were closely linked with botanical garden.
Botanical garden has scientific linkages with 75 Botanical gardens and dendroparks in Ukraine and other countries of the world.
Botanical garden is the scientific establishment where the researches on plants introduction and acclimatization, selection, biotechnology of park-horticultural design are taken place. Valuable plants species - inroducents are implemented in the agriculture, forestry, decoration of rural sites etc.
